May 15th, 2013 — Courses, Stitching, Workshops, craft
A number of my students have expressed an interest in a fast-paced sewing course.
That is why I have designed a series of intensive Sewing Bootcamps - new hands-on courses which will help budding sewers master all of the basic skills and techniques they will need to tackle dressmaking and soft furnishing projects.
These courses will obviously cover more than I am able to cover in a 3 hour Workshop and will allow me to do many things which I don’t have time to deal with in the shorter time-frame.
Bootcamp 1 will run over 4 consecutive weekdays (mornings 9.30 – 12.30) or over two Saturdays (mornings 10am – 1pm and afternoons 1.30pm – 4.30pm)
I will teach students about:
- The different functions of a sewing machine
- Different fabrics and their uses
- Pattern markings
- The importance of precision
You learn and develop skills such as:
- Machine Sewing
- Hand sewing
- Inserting a zip
- Cutting out fabric using a pattern
And everyone will leave the course with a bag and cushion!
The starting dates of Sewing Bootcamp 1 are:
- 28th May (weekdays)
- 8th June (weekends))
- 10th June (weekdays)
Information about Bootcamp 2 and Bootcamp 3, which will cover more
advanced skills, to follow!
To find out if the Sewing BootCamp is the right course for you please call me on 087 953 68 18, email me on maebh@seweasy.ie or

April 11th, 2013 — Courses, Crochet, Events
Join us in the beautiful surroundings of Mulranny Co Mayo in the Essence of Mulranny (EOM) studio (www.greenwaysgetaways.ie) for a weekend of Tunisian crochet classes with Irene Lundgaard (www.yarnclasses.ie)
Accommodation and all meals (2 dinners, 2 lunches and 2 breakfasts) plus two full days of classes with Irene is 190 euro.
The weekend is organised by the NUI Galway Knit and Crochet group and to book a place or for more information contact
Ashla Ward at 086 1936620 or ashla.ward@nuigalway.ie
The group is run by staff of the university who wish to develop their crafting skills through mutual projects, sharing and workshops (Facebook:NUIGalway Knit and Crochet).
We are delighted to be able to open this event up to fellow crafters but the numbers will be capped at 12. We have had other workshops in EOM and we can highly recommend it as a relaxing, nurturing enviornment which is passionately run by Cheryl Coberne Browne.
The studio we will be using is on site and the views from the house are of beautiful Clew bay with a blue flag beach a short walk from the house.

March 10th, 2013 — Courses, Workshops
Mixed ability workshop in beautiful Antrim, 29th to 31st of March
Antrims dramatic coastline boasts some of Irelands finest scenery. A great location with numerous spots to visit for both sunrise and sunset.
You could not ask for a more perfect location for photography. Dramatic coastline with seascapes, rockpools, vast skies with the added charm of staying at the Ballylinny cottages beside the Giants Causeway eating quality home cooked food for 2 nights and 2 days.
Along with the basics of Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO and Depth of Field we will also deal with Filters (Neutral Density & Polarisers), White Balance (Kelvin Scale), Histograms and much more. We recap on all topics but the mixed ability workshop has more emphasis on Form & Composition, Light and connection to your subject. The great advantage of a residential workshop is that it is continuous and intensive with photography from dawn to dusk and beyond with critique of the images shot on the workshop.
I will go through some techniques on photoshop and process at lease one of your images ready for printing.
There will be no more than 6 people in the group so that you each receive plenty of personal attention and tuition.
All food is included and comes in the form of the home cooked variety by…..me!!!
Cost (includes all food and accommodation for Friday and Saturday night) €550
You can see more info and a video on my workshop page:

Greenland Expedition
A wonderful opportunity has come my way and I have been invited to take part in a sailing expedition to Greenland with a wonderful crew of adventurers. There’ll be sailors, rock climbers, kayakers, film makers and me on board the Killary Flyer, a 49′ aluminium hulled yacht, which departs Kilary Harbour on the 15th of June to set sail for Greenland. Once we have battled the rough Atlantic we will make our way up the west coast where further adventures will begin. I intend to photograph the beauty of ice while I’m there from calving glaciers to deep blue ice caves and from towering ice bergs to miniature exquisite ice scultures. You can keep updated on our progress on our website:
www.northofdisko.com
and on our Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/IrishExpeditions
As some of you may know I have photographed ice before when I put together my Sand & Ice collection. I travelled to the Sahara before heading to Iceland to complete this collection. You can view some of these images on my website:
http://dulraphotography.com/Projects/sand-a-ice.html
Spending time with the ice in Iceland had a profound effect on me as I found the infinite and sublime beauty of the ice to be nature’s creativity at it’s best. This is an incredible, once in a lifetime, opportunity to capture more of this stunning beauty.
I plan to host an exhibition and publish a book on my return. If you would like to know more please get in touch.
Kind regards,
Daragh
