Hi
I’m Karen Harper, editor of NOTICEBOARD craft newsletter, Irish Jewellery Designer, teacher of Wire-work jewellery, Interior Designer, Mum and full time student at the school of Life!
Over the last three months I have been emailing NOTICEBOARD, a newsletter about fairs and exhibitions in Ireland, good suppliers and courses, to all the artists and crafts people that have crossed my path, and the
response has been fantastic.
NOTICEBOARD now has a fantastic network of like minded people who want to make the most of what is around them.
I hope to be able to keep it updated, fresh and informative, and also to make it interesting to read, humour always helps!
I invite anyone to send in adverts of their events, classes, supplies and just as long as its not too boring, it gets sent out with the next issue!
There are no costs involved so far.
NOTICEBOARD
You can join the mailing list by emailing me at harperkaren@eircom.net
IrishCraftUpdate.com allows me to get updated craft information to all who need it. Blogging seems like the best choice to keep on top of things and reach a wider audience.
Since I am a craft person to the bone, the computer was a big hurdle and now that I have faced my fear, I realise that it is true, you get to know how to do things through practice.
Through the NOTICEBOARD I met Paul O Mahoney, proud owner of www.siopaeile.com
With the help and constant guidance from Paul O Mahoney I have now become a blogger. If it is a bit complicated, I get a personal video made to show me how to do something….his service is exceptional!
My next decision . what happens next….
NOTICEBOARD will continue since I can’t see how any of this would have happened without it!
Here it goes…it changed my life!
ha ha ha it really did. I have three small children and I am not able to do all the running around that I used to.
The reason I started all of this was that, with the way my life was heading, my priorities being at home, I realised that I couldn’t hold back from trying to help others to move forward with their own careers.
The NOTICEBOARD was my way of connecting anyone interested with the tools to help them in their lifetime goals.
Irishcraftupdate.com is my way of getting to the other people that I have not met yet! Also it will save me time since I can directly publish all the information, without having to send each issue to new people.
When starting off you need to know what is out there to help you, like the Craft Council of Ireland, Enterprise Boards, Guilds and Associations. I will be talking more about these in coming posts.
So what’s next?
Over the next couple of weeks I hope to cover all the topics that I have covered in NOTICEBOARD.
I feel it is best to speak from experience and with years in markets, commissioned work,
meeting with suppliers and other crafts people it is all about sharing experiences.
Please feel free to ask about any special subject, because if I don’t know there is always someone out there that will.
Looking forward to hearing your comments!
Happy reading and I will keep you posted with the Irish craft world in general.

Mrs Harper,I think I know your husband, Australian isn’t he? I have only recently got interested in crafts and I was wondering do you know where I would find out about Ostrich Egg Shell Painting? I have recently moved to Kerry, so somewhere local would be great.
