Series on how to Sell Art Online

Karen has asked me to do a series on the selling of Art online. Now I don’t claim to be an expert in this area, but I do know a lot about the newer generation of websites that I believe will be of great benefit to artists. A lot of these websites focus on making the experience as easy as possible for the user and I’m quite confident that I’ll surprise many of you with what I come up with.

I’m going to be looking at trends abroad, what other craft bloggers are doing and what we can learn from them.

I’ll be looking at online marketing strategies, and an expression I don’t like to use in polite company (”Search Engine Optimization”). Yes, I know, the term frightens me even, and I can feel your attention spans wavering. Bear with me though. Rough laymans guide to this term is “how to make sure your website appears as close to the top of google search results as possible. The higher you are, the more visits your website gets.”

The 3 most basic ways of achieving this is:
1. to get lots of links from other websites to your website
2. Makes sure your website gets updated frequently
3. use keywords in your titles and content

So over the coming months I’m going to monitor how we are doing in our efforts to market this blog. First experiment will be to try and get as many links to it as possible. This is where you come in. If you have a website and you value what we are doing here, please do link to us and use the phrase ‘Irish Craft Update’ in the link.

Here’s a taster on what’s to come in this series(video brought to you by hushed productions):

Selling art through Etsy on Blogs

Excuse the hushed tone, its not in reverence for blogging, but its late and my flat mate doesn’t take kindly to being woken up by a man speaking to a computer….

Check out Marisa Haedikes blog Creative Thursday for a great example of someone marketing their art through blogging.
