We’re looking to do a live or pre-recorded phone interview with a person who runs knitting classes that would be able to speak to us on the radio through Irish.
It is for the ‘Caitheamh Aimsire’ or hobbies section so we’d be happy to speak to anyone who has quirky or creative crafting classes on either.
Contact email. ailbheniriain@gmail.com
Or (01) 6616333.
The show is called Beo ag a Dó, and it is on weekdays from 14:00 - 14:30on Raidio Na Life 106.4fm.

Firstly….your reputation is everything!!!
Do it right the first time, cut no corners, put in as much effort as you possible can, advertise in every way possible, be fair and loyal to the stand holders and then hope for the best!
If you have the intention of making money in every way possible then everyone fails.
If you start with the attitude that growing a business and reputation is your goal and you look after the stand holders as well as your customers, making sure there is variety and quality available to buy and a fair amount of stand holders with different products then you have a good basis to start from.
Never over-crowd an item (i.e. 6 jewellery/candle sellers out of 20 stands) it is boring for your customer as everything seems to be the same, and your stand holders are not going to sell well as people buying jewellery/candles on the day are spreading their funds over a large number of people.
ADvertise, ADvertise, ADvertise you can not do this enough!
Customers in the door bring a good atmosphere, good sales for your stand holders and the best way to advertise your next venture.
The products on the day need to be of good quality and not unrealistic prices, so ask your potential stand holders to send you images/prices of their work. If they are ready to sell professionally then they will manage this no problem.
BE ORGANISED!
Have your venue, stand holders, advertising and paperwork in order a couple of days before your event. It leaves room for any unexpected hiccups.
(I recommend that stand holders pay for their space in advance, people not turning up on the day is less likely once they have paid. When the doors open to the public, it is disheartening to other stand holders and customers to see empty tables, a quick reshuffle makes the place more inviting)
Music….it brings a happy feeling and mood to any event!

You may find my site of use:
http://startyourowncraftbusiness.wordpress.com/
The best thing to do is just start.
Find a fair and once you have been accepted then I would recommend having a variety in your price range. Always an expensive piece as you never know who will walk in the door…it also shows that you are able to make commission pieces and shows your worth.
I always have some pocket money pieces, these are easy for someone to buy on impulse and can be your bread and butter for the day, paying for your stand and hopefully a bit more.
You will learn as you go, what sells, what is most popular, what people pick up and put down quickly when they find out the price! or what sells out quickly because it is price perfect and appealing to the customer.
It is really up to you, if you find nothing moves but people compliment everything ask them, is the price what you expected etc. You are there in front of your customers, have the guts to ask their advise!
The recession is a hard place to sell items that are not ‘necessary’ so if you can possibly make pieces that have a need, like a clock, candle holder, advertise as a beautiful and unique wedding gift, gift wrapped and ready to go, home ware, something to wear etc.
People want something that can benefit their lives or make them feel good, and its up to you to make that happen.
Everyone will have their own experience and just getting out there is the best way to learn what you need to do next.
Best of Luck
Karen
