November 27th, 2007 — From Karen
For many interested in Crafts, this is the highlight of the year.
For the craft makers, this is the ultimate market place!
Having met so many artists and crafts people that are striving towards the RDS events I can only say, I wish you all well.
Knowing that there are 500 stalls, the volume of people that is needed in the door is great.
Thankfully this event is now catering for those that are interested in staying for a good few hours, and there is a food emporium….the Knitting and Stitching Show and Art Ireland were an absolute disgrace when it came to getting refreshments!
The reason you go early in the day is to spend the day at your leisure, looking for and at everything in the Fair. When you do need to refresh, take a break, it is vital that there is somewhere to take a load off and feel ready to enjoy the rest of the fair.
People have spent big money and very valuable time to have their goods on display. It is only right that the general public can enjoy it all and soak it up and not feel hassled and exhausted after an hour of shopping!
That’s my rant; this is definitely not the stall holders fault, and maybe this will be seen by the right people to realize, there is no show without an audience….the public need to be looked after!!!

If you know who the organiser of a fair is, please email their details to me personally.
karen.noticeboard@gmail.com
I can then ask them if they are looking for anything in particular, there are still many people available to fill these places!

The Irish Art Compendium had their first awards last night…..
what amazing talent!
Firstly let me congratulate John on holding a great event and what amazing prizes…
Overall winner got 10,000 Euro
The five runner up artists got 1,000 Euro each
Those that voted for the winner all got put into a hat and 10 voters got 500 Euro each!
What can I say but this was a fantastic competition for everyone involved.
The six pictures were on display before the winner was announced and I would definitely say what a job it would be to choose between them.
The pictures were so different, all brilliant in their own way, and the artists were only too delighted to stand while I got my photographer to capture them with their work…and all found it funny when I said I would be able to start selling copies of their work by lunch time today!
(why they thought that was funny, I don’t know!!!)
Well done to Bartosz Kolata with ‘McDonalds’, who was the lucky winner of 10,000 Euro!
Check out http://www.irishartcompendium.com/index.php to see all the entries!
All finalists will be doing a blog post for me once Christmas is over… and you can hear from the artists first hand about their work.
